How to Find and Defeat Ghorm

Find Ghorm’s patrol track, choose a fight away from your base, and respond when the roaming boss starts pursuing you.

Quick answer

Look outward from the Core for the wide slime track through the Clay Caves and Forgotten Ruins. Wait for Ghorm to pass, attack from a prepared area, and expect it to pursue you after taking enough damage. Keep moving out of its body’s path; collect Ghorm’s Horn after victory. Route · Chase

Before you start

This guide is for PC Steam, Standard difficulty, release-generation worlds, no mods. We omit fixed trap counts, damage thresholds and a guaranteed loadout.

Suggested resources: your repaired weapon, available armor, recovery items and a hoe. A ranged weapon gives you an approach for attacking a passing boss; this is an editorial choice, not a required item tier. The hoe clears the slowing Ground Slime from your intended movement area. Ground evidence

Step 1: Find the track rather than a fixed coordinate

Explore outward until you encounter the broad, slime-covered route. It circles through the inner biomes; another player’s compass direction is not a reliable location for your world. Observe from beside the route so that finding it does not require standing in Ghorm’s path. Track evidence

Optional: after activating Glurch’s statue, its crafting menu offers the Ghorm the Devourer Scanner. It marks the living boss’s position on the map. Check the recipe in your own build; this guide does not provide a material count. A scanner helps locate Ghorm, not defeat it. Scanner evidence

Step 2: Choose what you can afford to damage

Fight away from your base, chests and valuable structures. Ghorm destroys terrain and objects along its movement, so a storage room is a poor arena. Clear slime from an adjacent movement area with a hoe before engaging. Destruction · Slime

Our preparation suggestion is to identify open routes to either side and rehearse the weapon/recovery controls before waiting for a pass. Do not rely on a wall or a carefully placed object staying intact.

Step 3: Handle patrol and pursuit separately

  1. When Ghorm passes, attack from the side with your chosen ranged weapon while avoiding its body.
  2. Continue until you see it leave the regular patrol and turn toward you. The change in behaviour is more useful than a disputed percentage on a guide page.
  3. Move out of its line of approach, then attack while there is room to do so. Keep the next escape route visible.
  4. When movement becomes constrained, prioritise a clear position over another shot; do not lead the fight into structures you meant to preserve. Chase evidence

This is a movement-and-observation plan, not a guaranteed kill formula. Terrain and your control of the weapon matter, and this article does not claim a tested minimum equipment level.

Common problems

Problem Check or adjustment
You found slime but not the boss Ghorm is moving. Wait safely beside the track or use the optional scanner.
Ghorm still follows the ring Keep an eye on its actual behaviour; the published phase percentages disagree.
Dodging feels slow Recheck slime underfoot and clear your movement area before the next attempt.
Your route leads toward storage Stop using that arena; Ghorm’s destructive movement makes the location unsuitable.
A trap strategy from another guide fails Do not assume a fixed quantity guarantees a kill; use a strategy appropriate to your build and record its version.

Wiki accounts of pursuit distances and recovery are not consistent enough here to prescribe a numerical leash or regeneration rate. Do not build the plan around either.

After the fight

Retrieve Ghorm’s Horn and use it in the Ghorm statue beside the Core. One Wiki item entry names the wrong statue; the corroborated statue pages and progression descriptions agree on Ghorm. Relic evidence

Check the Core activation guide for the remaining relic. If Glurch is already complete, Malugaz is the remaining core-progression boss, rather than Hive Mother. If you skipped Glurch, use its finding and combat guide next.

Before and after: check your progress

Check these against your actual progress. This does not read or validate your save. Reloading resets the checklist.

Disputes, untested details and limits
  • This is documentary cross-checking, not gameplay testing. Wiki entries may share an origin and are not independent experiments.
  • Scope: PC Steam, release-generation worlds, Standard difficulty, no mods. Console builds, Classic worlds, Hard mode and mods are outside scope.
  • The PC 1.3.0.7 announcement was reviewed as the version baseline; the walkthrough has not been executed in that build. If behaviour differs, record the build and observation before relying on it.
  • Wiki patrol radii and chase health thresholds conflict; the guide gives no numeric radius, fixed compass location or orbit direction.
  • ATMA’s Horn item page inconsistently names Glurch; the Ghorm mapping follows the corroborated statue entries instead.
  • No trap counts or guaranteed instant kills; untested explosive setups, exact regeneration rates and armor numbers are excluded.
