How to Activate the Core in Core Keeper

Find the three relics, match them to the right statues, and diagnose why the Core or Great Wall is still inactive.

Quick answer

Defeat Glurch, Ghorm and Malugaz, use their relics in the matching statues beside the Core, then finish the Core’s dialogue. To continue outward, interact with the Great Wall. Killing the bosses alone does not complete the statue step. Evidence

Version check: this is the release-era route. The 1.0 update made Hive Mother optional and replaced her Core statue with Malugaz’s. A guide that still requires her heart may describe Early Access. Official change

Before you start

This guide covers PC Steam, Standard difficulty, no mods, in a world generated for the full release. Classic worlds and console-specific problems need separate verification.

Use the relic names below to audit your progress. You do not need to copy a particular armor build to perform the activation itself. Preparing for each boss is a separate task; see the linked combat guides.

Step 1: Match the missing relic to its boss

Relic Obtain from Use at
Glurch Eye Glurch the Abominous Mass Glurch statue
Ghorm’s Horn Ghorm the Devourer Ghorm statue
Stolen Crystal Heart Malugaz the Corrupted Malugaz statue

These are the three progression items, not interchangeable crafting ingredients. Mapping evidence

For an efficient first pass, start with Glurch, then Ghorm. That order is our suggested reading route, not a hard-coded requirement. Malugaz is the remaining relic source; this article does not substitute for a researched Malugaz combat guide.

Step 2: Activate the statues at the Core

  1. Return with the relics you have obtained; inspect your inventory before leaving the boss area.
  2. Interact with the matching statue, rather than repeatedly using the central Core.
  3. Insert its relic. The connecting path lighting up gives you a way to check which statue is complete.
  4. Repeat for the remaining statues. If one connection is still dark, compare it with the table instead of assuming a boss kill failed to count. Activation evidence

Step 3: Finish the conversation and open the wall

Once all statues are powered, speak to the Core and advance the dialogue. Travel out to the Great Wall and use your configured Interact with object control on it. Mining harder is not this progression step. Wall evidence

In co-op, each player should speak to the Core for their own Souls tab; one teammate’s conversation is not evidence that yours is complete. Co-op evidence

If progress is stuck

What you see Check next
Boss defeated, Core still inactive Verify its relic was collected and placed in the correct statue.
Two statues lit, one dark Identify the missing relic from the table; do not replace it with an unrelated boss drop.
Following a Hive Mother requirement Check the guide date and world generation; full-release progression uses Malugaz.
Core lit, wall still closed Complete the conversation on your current character, then interact with the wall.
Instructions do not match your save Record platform, build, world type and mods; do not destroy or overwrite the save to force a match.

This checklist narrows the problem; it does not diagnose every possible save bug.

What to do next

After the wall opens, return to the Core for its next direction. Keep your boss relic checklist separate from optional fights so that an unrelated victory does not become a missing-step assumption. Next-stage evidence

Before and after: check your progress

Check these against your actual progress. This does not read or validate your save. Reloading resets the checklist.

Disputes, untested details and limits
  • This is documentary cross-checking, not gameplay testing. Wiki entries may share an origin and are not independent experiments.
  • Scope: PC Steam, release-generation worlds, Standard difficulty, no mods. Console builds, Classic worlds, Hard mode and mods are outside scope.
  • The PC 1.3.0.7 announcement was reviewed as the version baseline; the walkthrough has not been executed in that build. If behaviour differs, record the build and observation before relying on it.
  • Recommended boss order is not a mandatory sequence; unchecked recipes, coordinates and damage are excluded.
