How to Find and Defeat Malugaz the Corrupted in Core Keeper
Find the throne room, combine the current summoning item, handle both forms, and return the Stolen Crystal Heart to the Core.
Quick answer
Find the throne room in the Forgotten Ruins. Combine three Crystal Skull Shards into a Malugaz Summoning Idol, then place the finished item on the central sigil. Finish both combat forms and collect the Stolen Crystal Heart. Location · Summoning · Forms
Before you start
You do not need Scarlet equipment as a story prerequisite. In full-release progression Malugaz provides a Core relic; this guide does not impose Glurch → Ghorm → Malugaz as a compulsory order. Check your remaining relics in the Core activation guide. Progression
Our preparation list is practical advice: repair your chosen weapon and armor, bring recovery supplies and food, light the approach, and keep a ranged option if it helps you avoid prolonged contact. These are suggestions, not a tested minimum damage or item count. Save supplies for the second form.
Step 1: Separate finding the room from finding the item
Search the Forgotten Ruins for the throne-room structure. Mark its entrance and clear hostile enemies on your approach before starting. A coordinate from another world is not your destination. We omit the conflicting published arena distances. Arena evidence
For shards, inspect loot while fighting Cavelings in the ruins rather than expecting the boss to be waiting in an empty room. The summoning item must be assembled before it can be placed. Use the table as an inventory check. Item evidence
| In your inventory | Next check |
|---|---|
| Fewer than three shards | Continue the shard search; you do not yet have the complete recipe. |
| Three shards, no idol | Put the shards in your active hand/hotbar slot and use the combine action. |
| Malugaz Summoning Idol | Keep it for the throne-room sigil; prepare before placement. |
Older guides call the finished item Skull of the Corrupted Shaman. That is an older name, not a second ingredient to obtain. Current item pages use Malugaz Summoning Idol. The reviewed current recipe uses three shards; the historical ten-shard instruction is excluded. Recipe evidence
Step 2: Summon only when the room is ready
- Check your weapon, recovery hotkey and available movement space.
- Hold the finished idol and place it on the sigil in the throne room.
- Begin the fight there. Do not expect loose shards or a random floor tile elsewhere in the ruins to start the encounter. Placement evidence
Step 3: Change your plan when the form changes
| Signal | Response to prioritise |
|---|---|
| Teleport, fireball or marked fire area | Watch the destination and ground, leave the threatened area, then take a short attack opportunity. |
| First health bar emptied, boss returns with health | Keep fighting: this is the transition, not the victory cue. |
| Pursuit and melee charge | Leave the line of approach and choose your next safe position before committing to another attack. |
The table is our movement plan based on the documented forms. It does not promise a fixed attack window or an invulnerable position. Avoid sustained attacks that leave you standing in fire. Behaviour evidence
Stay within the arena while attempting the kill. Pulling the boss outside can restore health or reset the encounter. If you need to abandon an attempt, prioritise recovery rather than assuming the damage will be preserved. Reset evidence
Common problems
| Problem | Check next |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens on placement | Confirm you have the finished idol and are using the throne-room sigil. |
| Boss returns after a health bar empties | Reserve resources for, and finish, the second form. |
| Health keeps returning while you retreat | Check whether you have left the arena. |
| A guide requires ten shards or calls the fight optional | Check its era; do not merge Early Access progression with the full-release route. |
| Fire keeps closing off your movement | Shorten attack commitments and use remaining clear ground; this guide does not rely on a disputed watering-can trick. |
After the fight
Collect the Stolen Crystal Heart and use it at Malugaz’s statue beside the Core. Use the Core checklist for the complete activation process. Drop evidence · Statue use
If other relics are missing, choose the relevant Glurch or Ghorm guide. After the wall route is open, Scarlet Ore is a resource guide; the optional Hive Mother is a separate combat objective.

Disputes, untested details and limits
- No independent game session, game-data extraction or screenshot evidence was produced. Separate editorial sources are corroboration, not proof of independent experiments.
- Historical reports are restricted to mechanisms still corroborated by current sources; numerical thresholds, world coordinates and guaranteed loadouts are omitted.
- Older reports require ten shards, use the former Skull of the Corrupted Shaman name, or describe Malugaz as optional. Current item/recipe sources take precedence; the old name is an alias, not another required item.
- Watering-can fire removal is disputed between current community and third-party text. No extinguishing instruction, fire duration, arena radius, HP or damage values are prescribed.
- Prima Games (October 2026) specifically contradicts itself by calling Malugaz one of the first story bosses and later optional. Only its summoning-item recipe is used; the optional sentence is rejected using the official launch notes.
